Recorders & storage that keep enough history
The commonest mistake in a CCTV system is storage too small to hold footage long enough to be useful. An incident is often noticed a week later — if the recorder only kept four days, the cameras were decoration.
- DVR and NVR sized to the number of cameras, with room to add more later
- Surveillance-grade hard disks — ordinary desktop drives are not built to write continuously
- Retention discussed up front — how many days you keep is a decision, not an accident
- Power backup for the recorder, so a power cut is not a gap in the footage
